manamenum pennE 22 kharaharapriyā janya pallavi manamenum peṇṇE vāḻi nī kEl̤āionraiyE paṭri ūśalāḍuvāi anupallavi aḍuttadai nOkki aḍuttaḍut-tulāvuvāi nanraiyE kol̤ enil śErndu kai naḻuvuvāi caraṇam viṭṭu viḍenradai viḍādu pOi viḻuvāi toṭṭadai mīnamīl̤avum toḍuvāi pudiyadu kāṇīr pulanaḻindiḍuvOm pudiyadu virumbuvāi pudiyadai anjuvāi ṃeaning: āddresing the mind personified as a young maiden, the poet says: O blessed mind, listen! ẏou latc on to one thing, and svay in its grip; anticipating the nekṣt thing, you move from one to the nekṣt and again, the nekṣt thing; vhen asked to focus on the gūd, you manage to give one the slip; vhen told to 'leave it alone!', you hang on to it vith firmer grip; you kīp reverting to the same old thoughts; l̤et us lose ourselves in the nev; you vant the nev, but are at the same time, are fearful of it!
