Aandolika is a graceful and soothing raga in Carnatic music, known for its gentle and slightly introspective mood. It is a pentatonic (audava–audava) raga, derived from the melakarta Harikambhoji. The raga uses five notes in both ascent and descent, with the scale S R₂ M₁ P N₂ S in ascent and S N₂ D₂ M₁ R₂ S in descent. A unique feature of Aandolika is the absence of Gandharam (G), while Dhaivatam (D) appears only in the descending scale, giving it a distinct melodic identity. The raga is characterized by smooth, oscillating movements, especially in phrases like N–D–M, which create a soft, flowing effect. True to its name, “Aandolika” suggests a gentle swinging or oscillation in the melody.
