Ahiri
Indian Classical Raga
Ahiri is a raga in Carnatic music with karuna (compassion, pathos) as its predominant rasa. Sources disagree on its melakarta parent, variously naming it a janya of the 14th melakarta Vakulabharanam and of the 8th melakarta Hanumatodi (Todi). A folk saying holds that singing Ahiri makes the listener forget their next meal, reflecting its association with pathos rather than festivity.
