Mayamalavagaula

Indian Classical Raga

Mayamalavagowla is a raga in Carnatic music. It is the fifteenth melakarta raga in the 72 melakarta system, in the Agni chakra. It was originally called Malavagowla, with the prefix maya added once the 72-melakarta scheme assigned it the number 15. It is the first raga taught to beginning students, since foundational exercises such as the sarali varisai are sung in it. It is traditionally performed at dawn.
