Pavani
Indian Classical Raga
Pavani is the 41st melakarta raga in the Carnatic 72 melakarta system, the fifth raga of the Rishi chakra. Its name means "the purifier." It is a sampoorna raga, with all seven notes in both ascending and descending scales. Muthuswami Dikshitar's composition "Sachidanandamaya" is set in this raga, and the raga has also been used in film music, including "Paartha Vizhi" from the Tamil film Gunaa.
