Sankarabharana

Indian Classical Raga

Shankarabharanam, also known as Dheerashankarabharanam, is the 29th melakarta raga in the Carnatic 72 melakarta system, the fifth raga of the Bana chakra. It corresponds to the major scale (Ionian mode) in Western music and to Bilaval thaat in Hindustani music. It has been set by composers across the Telugu, Sanskrit, Kannada and Tamil traditions. Many janya ragas are derived from it.
