Chowdaiah Memorial Hall

A violin-shaped auditorium in Vyalikaval, Bengaluru, built as a memorial to violinist T. Chowdiah on the initiative of former BDA chairman K. K. Murthy. Designed by architect S. N. Murthy, it took seven years to build and was completed on 14 November 1980 at a cost of 36 lakh rupees, funded by the state government, banks and public donations. The hall is shaped like a giant seven-stringed violin, complete with strings, keys, bridge and bow, and seats 1,100. It is run by the Academy of Music, an independent body founded in 1961, and hosts Carnatic and Hindustani concerts, jazz, ballet, dance, plays, ghazals and fashion shows.
