About

Sadvidya Pathashala was founded in 1854 by Periswamy Thirumalacharya as an elementary school in Mysuru; Gunja Narasimhaiah gifted the building, and Maharaja Chamaraja Wadiyar laid the foundation stone. Swami Vivekananda stayed here from 9 to 24 November 1892, before travelling to the United States for the Parliament of World Religions, and a plaque marks the visit. The institution has since grown to include a high school (1973) and pre-university colleges (from 1999), teaching in English, Kannada, Hindi and Sanskrit.
