About

A music sabha in Basavanagudi, Bengaluru, founded in 1905 on the initiative of K. Ramachandra Rao, headmaster of the London Mission High School. Early concerts were held at Ekamabara Sauji Hall and the old Sanskrit college before the sabha built Shankaraiah Hall in 1926; it moved to its present Krishna Rajendra Road site in 1962, aided by funds M. S. Subbulakshmi raised through her benefit concerts. The auditorium seats 700, including a 150-seat balcony, and was renovated in 2016-17 at a cost of about 1.5 crore rupees. The sabha holds an annual conference at which it confers the 'Sangeetha Kalarathna' title, and publishes a monthly journal, Gayana Samrajya.
