Madhyamavati is a janya raga of the 22nd melakarta Kharaharapriya. It is an audava raga, using five notes — S R2 M1 P N2 — in both ascent and descent. Its notes are well spaced, which suits it to elaboration, and it is conventionally sung near the close of a Carnatic concert.
