Sahana

Indian Classical Raga

Sahana is a janya raga most often classified under the 28th melakarta Harikambhoji, using antara gandharam; the Dikshitar school instead treats it as a janya of the 22nd melakarta Kharaharapriya with sadharana gandharam. It is an ubhaya vakra sampoorna raga, with zigzag movement in both the ascending and descending scales. It carries a karuna (pathos) rasa and is associated with dasya bhakti, expressing devotional surrender. It is sung in both Carnatic and Hindustani music.
