Harikambhoji

Indian Classical Raga

Harikambhoji is the 28th melakarta raga in the Carnatic 72 melakarta system, the fourth raga of the Bana chakra. It is a sampoorna raga corresponding to the Mixolydian mode in Western music and to Khamaj thaat in Hindustani music. Among the major composers, only Tyagaraja is known to have composed directly in Harikambhoji, including "Raama Nannu Brova" and "Entha Raani Thana." Its janya ragas, particularly Kambhoji and the pentatonic Mohanam, are performed far more often than the parent scale itself.
