Navanitam
Indian Classical Raga
Navaneetam is the 40th melakarta raga in the Carnatic 72 melakarta system, the fourth raga of the Rishi chakra. Its name means "fresh butter" in Sanskrit. It is the prati madhyamam equivalent of Vanaspati, the fourth melakarta. Compositions in this raga include Muthuswami Dikshitar's "Srinatha Sodarim" and Tyagaraja's "Lemidelpa Peddalevaru."
